Terms of service (v0.1)

  1. Service. witnessd fetches publicly reachable URLs at a requester's instruction, records what was served to it, and issues cryptographic certificates about those records. Payment is per call (x402) or via prepaid credits.
  2. Evidence, not judgment. A certificate attests what this service observed at a time, from its vantage point. It is not an eIDAS qualified timestamp, not a legal opinion, and not a guarantee that a court will accept it. Nothing here is legal advice.
  3. Privacy of archives. Archived response bodies are delivered only to paying requesters as evidence. We do not republish archived content. Certificates (hashes, timestamps, proofs) are public.
  4. Acceptable use. No witnessing of unlawful content; no use to harass; no attempts to witness private/internal network addresses (blocked technically); scheduled watches honor robots.txt. We may refuse or remove archives to comply with law, including copyright takedowns — the certificate (hashes) survives removal of content.
  5. No warranty. The service is provided as-is; total liability is capped at the fees paid for the affected call. Anchoring depends on public blockchain availability; batching is hourly and best-effort.
  6. Refunds. Failed captures (4xx/5xx errors from our service) are not settled/charged where the payment rail permits; anchored snapshots are non-refundable.
